Abrazo 500 is a high-performance abrasion-resistant steel plate produced by Luke Steel in Houston. With a nominal hardness of 500 HBW, it offers better protection and lasts longer in demanding environments. This steel combines hard-wearing qualities with reliable toughness and weldability. Abrazo 500 consists of a unique blend of carbon, manganese, chromium, and molybdenum, precisely mixed to achieve a nominal Brinell hardness of 500 HBW. It features a yield strength of about 1350 MPa, a tensile strength of 1450 MPa, and approximately 8–10% elongation. Charpy V-notch impact toughness stays above 25 ft-lb at –20 °C. Despite its hardness, Abrazo 500 remains weldable and formable, thanks to controlled alloy chemistry and processing that limit carbon equivalent.
