Abrasion-resistant sheets and plates are produced from specially designed alloy steel with carbon, manganese, chromium, and in some instances, boron for added strength and hardness. These plates usually provide a hardness of 400–600 HBW, grade dependent, accompanied by tensile strengths over 1200 MPa. In spite of their high hardness levels, they possess adequate ductility to enable cutting, welding, and forming using proper methods.
