Grade 2 Alloy Steel Low-alloy steels with improved mechanical strength and corrosion resistance are used to make fasteners. Carbon (0.30–0.60%), manganese (0.60–1.65%), chromium (0.40–1.10%), and molybdenum (up to 0.50%) make up the typical composition. These components support high toughness, yield strength (minimum 450 MPa), and superior tensile strength (up to 860 MPa). Heat treatment is applied to the fasteners to increase their hardness and fatigue and wear resistance.
