P5 pipes contain chromium (4–6%) and molybdenum (0.45–0.65%) with carbon, manganese, and silicon. The combination of the alloy gives a tensile strength of 415–655 MPa and yield strength of 205 MPa. The pipes have high creep strength, thermal resistance, and resistance to oxidation at high temperatures. Heat treatment also increases their toughness and pressure retention against cyclic thermal loads.
