Boiler Quality Sheets and Plates generally consist of carbon (0.20–0.30%), manganese (0.80–1.60%), silicon (≤0.50%), phosphorus (≤0.035%), and sulfur (≤0.035%), with variations based on the grade (like ASTM A516 Gr 60/70). These plates boast tensile strength between 415–620 MPa and yield strength from 240–310 MPa, providing excellent notch toughness and thermal stability. Their microstructure can be enhanced through normalizing or controlled rolling, which boosts their resistance to pressure-induced stress and high-temperature fatigue—making them ideal for critical pressure vessel manufacturing.

Tempering:Â Notch toughness can be improved by quenched cooling from hot rolling or normalizing by the supplier. If such a faster cooling rate is agreed upon between purchaser and supplier then the steel is also to be tempered at 1200 F.
Applications :Â Used for weld fabrication of pressure vessels that require improved notch toughness for lower than ambient temperature service.
