Carbon Steel EN-42 Bars are composed primarily of carbon (0.70–0.85%), manganese (0.55–0.75%), silicon (0.10–0.40%), with controlled amounts of phosphorus and sulfur (≤0.040%) to increase strength and workability. Such bars provide a tensile strength of 600–800 MPa, yield strength of 350–500 MPa, and elongation of 14–18%, providing good formability without any loss of strength. EN-42 bars with a Brinell hardness of 170–230 HB provide fine wear resistance and structural strength and are used for components that undergo moderate stress and both hardness and ductility are necessary.
