These bars, which meet international standards like ASTM, AISI, and BS, are made in both cold drawn and hot rolled forms and come in grades like EN8, C45, A105, and 1018. Round carbon steel bars are used extensively in the manufacturing of machinery, automobiles, buildings, railroads, and fabrication. Depending on the grade, carbon steel round bars usually contain 0.15% to 0.60 percent carbon along with different amounts of silicon, sulphur, phosphorus, and manganese. For example, EN8 has a tensile strength of up to 600 MPa and contains about 0.40 percent carbon. Mechanical characteristics include exceptional impact resistance, elongation between 16 and 22%, and yield strength between 250 and 450 MPa. While lower carbon grades offer more ductility and weldability, higher carbon grades offer superior hardness and wear resistance. Depending on the requirements of the application, heat treatment procedures like normalising, quenching, and tempering further improve performance.
